My route to CEO seat

My career path started early 2001 as an engineering cadet in marine engineering industry. Within a year time my title changed to forth marine engineer. Full hard work delivered from my internal spirit which helps me bring myself from marine competency class four to class two just three after my diploma graduation. I did my diploma in marine engineer from Ungku Omar Polytechnic, Ipoh. The desperate inside me did not stop me to achieve more. I continue my study at ALAM (Akedemi Laut Malaysia) year 2007 and obtain competency certificate class one from Malaysian Marine Department which recognized by JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam) as degree in engineering.






Currently I work for one oil giant BP (British Petroleum) which located at Labuan which major in laying up vessels. As routine manager over here, I need to ensure the all laid up vessel are fully operation. One of my key performance indexes was manage fleet under my care. I setup my goals and objectives to achieve an excellent in my performance review. I was promoted to junior management level after reviewed my performance last 1 year even thought I did not having any coursework on management skills. I required proving to my top management that their decision to promote me was not fail. My practical knowledge wasn’t enough to day to day management of operation.





A manager of 100 over people I need a management skill such as time and people management. The lower work forces are really low educational base. I required more time and a skill to reach their work mind to manage them as required on day to day basis. Most of the work forces are not same race/ ethnic. Their culture also difference from mine. I am really a stranger to them if I not manage them carefully, I will never achieve my goal. Targeting for a leadership, communication and interpersonal skill within next 3- 4 year isn’t archival thing as I describe.





Besides of above I am need to deal with various country customers and vendor for develop my company business. As a short term objectives are to maintain the current relationship and satisfy each customer requirement within the budgetary. As I not from any financial study, I need to obtain at least a basic foundation in the finance. The knowledge of the international business glued in my mind as my 5 year goal. The work pressure from customer, vendor and my top management which currently I facing will be solve if I gone through the skills to solve the business problem.















If I achieved above my objective and goals, I may promoted to be a general manager for my organization within next 10 year. 10 year is more than a sufficient time if I act now. I required a master degree in business management to qualify myself to apply for that position. I will be groomed by the time from I postgraduate until gain my position as a senior management level.





If my work and inputs from I gain from the MBA study applied in correct track will ensure I reach my destination. I am 100% confidence with my chosen course MBA will escalate my practical knowledge to the level of to open my own managed enterprise. The subjects though in the MBA program are an essential for junior management level as me.





The MBA program will groom me on understanding of the core disciplines of the management which I most looking forward now. It also develops the leadership, communication, interpersonal skills and skills in solving business problems though working in small groups. MBA program also will give me an internal confidence to involve in presentations and discussions.





I believe the de-moralization obtain from work pressure can avoidable if I stream this MBA program. The core value of the MBA program is it motivate everyone especially me to implement the management change and improve the existing practice to near future. Coming future will be more changeable to whom stepping in without this MBA. I won’t to be one of them. The time and changes won’t wait for us longer. My time and the opportunity come to me now. I will not give away the opportunities now which book a CEO seat for me.

ATHS “Armada Tuah 80” initial layup visit and proposal

Observations

This AHTS has 4 deck of accommodation (including bridge) and 2 deck of engine room. The engine room are inter connected to the bow thruster room, cement room, main engine room, refer room, mud room and the steering room. Beside the entrance door to engine room, there has 3 hatches leading to this compartment direct from main deck. The emergency generator room located at port main deck. The shore power breaker rated 200 Amps. The emergency fire pump and the deck cranes are supplied from this emergency bus bar. The deck crane which located starboard side is rated SWL of 5 tonnes and the life raft hydraulic davit at port side rated SWL of 1.65 tonnes. The accommodation AHU located at starboard main deck.

Proposals

1. A 2000 cubic dehumidifier will be installing on aft loading deck. The ducting will run through the mid hatch at the port side in to the engine room. Then ducting will be distributed to both level of machineries spaces and extended to bow thruster room & steering room. The return air will be extract from the highest point of the machineries space or funnel stack.

2. If dehumidification to machineries spaces decided, then the vessel superintendent planning to run the main diesel engine to test the bollard winch unable to carry out. This will be affecting the efficiency of the dehumidification by removing compartment seal more frequently.

3. If above machineries routine is more essential, a high capacity layup generator leased to power directly. It is not so economical to lease higher capacity generator to run such only one machine. The idling consumptions normally are high for higher rating generator.

4. Other option is to lease a soft starter to step down the starting currently. Thus will reduce the requirement of bigger generator.

5. A 2000 cubic dehumidifier will be sufficient to dehumidify the whole accommodation. The supply ducting will be connected to the AHU and the return will extract from bridge.

6. Even for both machineries spaces and the accommodation a single 3500 cubic dehumidifier can be used to cut down the cost of diesel consumption. The ducting arrangement can be modifying such a way the whole ship is preserved.

7. A 250 kVa generator with 20 meter cable is sufficient for preservation and for normal routine. If the bollard winches included into the routine the 1000 kVa may required depending on the starting current of the biggest motor.

8. There no need any modification in emergency generator to run the windlass or the crane. Only the shore breaker needs to replace to 400 amps breaker.

9. Watchmen hut will be built at main deck far from the layup generator.

Conclusion

To dehumidify the whole AHTS just require only 2 medium sizes dehumidifiers or 1 bigger dehumidifier.

With 250 kVa generator can be expected 4000 liters diesel oil consumption at initial. Then it can be lowered haft during continues preservation. But if the bollard winches which required higher capacity generator will expected consume double of the above consumption.

Loading and offloading can be done at ASB berth or using ship crane at layup.

At least 6 float required for early notification of any water ingress.

Jack up rig “BIMA” initial layup visit and proposal

Observations

The subjected rig has total 4 decks. The top 3 decks including the main deck are accommodation and the bridge. The helipad located above the bridge. The machineries are located one deck below of the main deck. Noticed most of deck machineries including the both cranes only can operated on 600V system and other are required 480V system. Emergency generator is lead acid battery starter with common diesel daily tank. The supply to the emergency fire pump is from the emergency bus bar. The emergency generator located at 2nd deck starboard accommodation. The drilling control room located at 3rd deck aft required a dehumidification. Also the top drive control room required dehumidification. The power control located below main deck requested to supply with dehumidification.

Proposals

1. Since they requested to dehumidify the power control room, we propose that the whole machineries spaces (power control room, workshop, compressor room, cement room and generator room) can be dehumidified using single 2100 cubic dehumidifier. The DH will be place on the port main deck direct powered from the layup generator; the ducting can be run through the hatch leading to the machineries room.


2. Even the cranes are incapable to used during the layup, the main deck level will be 12-15 meter which easy reachable by the Kwong Hin barge crane. Proposed to use the barge for all loading and offloading. Only above pointed location is suitable for generator; other location are not wide and not at side of the rig.

3. The drilling control room and top drive control room are very small spaces which can be dehumidified using a 300 cubic dehumidifier each. The power can be tap directly from the layup generator.

4. Just 10 meter cable required to cable up the generator to the shore power if the generator place at pointed location.

5. The accommodation is using an individual AHU for each deck. A 2100 cubic dehumidifier located at main deck and run through each level to dehumidify the whole accommodation.


6. The rate of layup generator will decided after calculate the starting current for the emergency fire pump. At time moment a 250kVa will be sufficient.


Conclusion


To dehumidify the whole rig just require only 2 medium sizes dehumidifiers and 2 extremely small dehumidifiers for the drilling and top drive control rooms.

With 250 kVa generator can be expected 4000 liters diesel oil consumption at initial. Then it can be lowered haft during continues preservation.

No underwater blanking required as the rig will be on air gap of 6 meter.

May required more than 4 solar lights.

1st Zoo Visit

Since she born, I normally educate her with paper exercise. Never show a real animal in the earth. Most of the time she ask while watching the television, “appa, how these animal sound’. Even I demonstrate also it own be as real as from the mouth of that animals.

After 3 years, only this time I had a change to bring here to the national Zoo at KL. She knew what is the Zoo but never imagine how big is it. We are at Zoo nearly after noon. Damn, It been long time until I did not aware the entrance fee. An adult about RM 20 and Kids RM 6 and it’s without to the butterfly farm. It’s ok for once in awhile. She was excited when saw the Elephant until hurt herself by run and fall on the street. She only scared to the Lion.

Due to excitements she walks along the Zoo fully without asking to carry her. I brought an ice cream in between to boost her out. Actually she doesn’t want to return but as I rushing for other plan, I force her to come back.

It was a nice trip and we will make next time at KL.

Park your vessel with 3S

There are still some of the vessel owners and operators not understand the term of vessel cold layup. Most of them loss their profit while operating the fleet idle or less cargo. Some feel laying up their fleets will bring their company profile low till the investor uncomfortable doing the business with them. But these reasons all no more practicable to current decades. The company top management has to look forward the methods of the preservation their assets in order to have an efficient operation with low cash flow. It does not matter if low revenue; always find a way to keep tide of the operating cost. The cold layup service will assist the vessel owners and operators to cut the operation cost more than 50 percent which assist them to invest into other areas or for bidding new contracts.


The term cold layup is sufficient to explain everyone without any detail description that the vessel will be preserved without any energy generated by the vessel systems. The vessel owners and operators no required any budget annually for breakdown maintenance and power generation. They also less worries of the safe manning requirement where the cold layup not required full manning for the vessel owners and operators. The vessels indeed no required any statuary validity during the period of layup. It means no renewal of class certification, maintenance of the state regulations and any international requirements.

Each owner of vessel do required the vessel are in full operation condition at all time. These extended to the ship hull protection from corrosion until to the machineries operation from any malfunction. The laying up company should more concern and provide all assistant on the owner’s expectations. Even the old dehumidifications methods still in markets, there are new technologies are inverted to make the vessel free of rust due to the high humidity. Environmental friendly Desiccant is widely used to reduce the humidity levels and at same time reduce the cost of operation the Dehumidifier. But the use of desiccant only effective and limited in usage at smaller / confine area with less introducing of fresh air / water. The dehumidifiers are more reliable and effective to those big and wet compartments such as engine room, accommodation and big stores.

As for the ship hull normally the laying up company provide additional hanging anode to protect from corrosion effects. The professional laying up company has their own control on the numbers of anodes and its weight to not over protect the ship hull which in later stage damage the coating/ cause the paints to peel off. The type of anodes does also taken into consideration to provide full range protection to ship hull. The potential reading on hull as well as on hanging anode will display the percentage of corrosion with any requirements of dry docking/ underwater survey for short terms.

The owner of the vessel shall more careful in making decision where to lay up the vessel. They need to consider the area they lay up is free from any piracy. Don’t ever underestimate the dead vessel not pull the pirate attention. The layup company also should provide a 24 hours surveillance watch to the vessel under their care with competent watchmen on board and back up support from shore based. It would be more secure if the layup anchorage area located within the port limit and closer to marine petrol surveillances. Normally the bay areas are more suitable for this kind of activity due to the area more secure. The bay are naturally protect the vessel in lay up from any external force such as tsunami, hurricane or high sea currents. A shallow water bay will be an advantage for the small craft owner where they can drop about 10 -11 shackle to secure their fleet.

A professional laying up company should capable of carrying out the preservation of the machineries from seizing and make sure all machineries in operating level at all time; not limited of operating the critical safety items such as emergency fire pump, emergency generator, emergency steering, lifeboat engines and operating of ventilation system. A competent engineer with sea experience would more understand the ship system and maintenance of these machineries. The laying up company should hire more qualified personnel to save the interest of the ship owner and the operators. The laying up company would be helpful if the present their competency to the vessel owner when bidding for vessel layup.

In additional the layup company can provide a fabric maintenance services to the vessel owner to make their fleet more presentable in order the value of the asset will increased. A Blasting and painting jobs on deck during the vessel layup will save the time and cost for the vessel owner at dry dock after the particular vessels recommence the operation. Even any buyer intent to buy vessel at layup area it would be beneficial to the owner if the vessel appearance is good. Besides that, any floating docking jobs such minor modification on board can be carried out by the owner for the preparation for next assign contract for the particular vessel. Owner may have sufficient time to carry out any maintenance jobs.

As descript early, even the vessel at layup not required for statutory regulations and certification, the owner can maintain the vessel class status through the laying up company for fast reactivation. Vessels at layup have to go an annual walkabout from the class for yearly renewal interim certification. Certification for LSA and FFA can be done during the vessel reactivation. The laying up company can perform these services to generator additional income other than the vessel lay up fee.

Finally, the vessels laying up service are beneficial to both party even it more to the vessel owners and operator. The local laying up companies should understand the business strategy to bring their services to world class.

Actually what she want?

Normally commercial men thought that overflow wealth with make her happy. I not denied it. I agreed on if she also a commercial woman. But in every woman’s heart they normally desire something else which normally the men hardly provide. Indian’s elders always say woman heart deeper than pacific where even King Neptune also can’t reach the bottom. A friend of mine who also a woman said only a woman can understand another women heart with limitation. Did bible was wrong, women created from man’s bone. How come we can’t understand our own bone species?


4 years married life with her, I still in doubt what will make her happy? We are haft love and haft arranged married couple. I will explain in my next blog what does it mean. Now let I talk about what actually she wants me to do to make satisfy. She is not a commercial woman. Money is not everything to her but she has knowledge the requirement of money for survive in this commercial world. She also knew that I need to work hard for them (with my daughter). But I not understand her wish that she want me to be beside her 24 hours.

She does not matter, what I will do that whole day beside her but she want me beside her. I really not understand, may be if I beside her make her feel save. None of my friend saw me outside my house after Maghreb except a company gathering. I learn to sleep early after marry her. She sleep deeply with a thought she save beside me. I had to install Astro in my bed room to make feel that I am beside her even I had to watch some important program in TV.

Normally there were three categories people around us; some live for their self not bother about the community ; only few scared of the community around them and live to be example to other and the rest living this earth without any bond not even care about their self. My loved one falls on second category, she don’t want to make any mistake until the community start gossip about her family. To do so she not wants her husband closer to these three; alcohols, cigarettes and women. I am lucky to have her to control me. Some time the control system way backward till make a small argument within us.

Women their first enemy was their own jealousy. Hey guys, don’t even been cheated yourself whenever your wife smile while you talking to other women either on phone or face to face. Every smile come out from the women has “prawn inside rocks” (hidden meaning). But their jealousies are actually a reflection of their deep love. One thing over here I understand they want us (men) to prove our love to them. But how to prove it? Still a unanswerable question. Men keen to be hard on everything. The soft touch is work on occasionally. It is not his mistake. They (men) are caring more responsibilities including the love proving actions.

I used to be the hot news reporter to my wife. I reports as soon as possible anything related to me which make her angry before any third party new reports. This always works on me where the angriness due to the event I made and reported by myself lesser then the third person report. I proved my honesty and willingness to apologies. I didn’t cheat her so far for a real serious matter. May be a small silly things yes of course.

You guys not going to lose anything if become Jerry in front of your wife Tom even you are a Don outside the house. Rhythmically I said “Wherever you at House always be as a Mouse”.

Gandria Anchor de-kinking Task

As part of the BPSC preservation process, all lay up vessel required t o be carry out underwater anchor and ship hull on 6 monthly basis. On last underwater inspection by Borneo Subsea notice that Anchor chain twisted and kinked from the sea bed to water surface. As part of constancy plan BPSC engage AHTS to operate and de-kink the anchor chain.


Today 15th July 2010 morning BPSC conduct a RA and JHA briefing with was discuss earlier with all parties involve (BPSC top management, BPSC key personnel, Barge operator, AHTS operator and contractors). As a good start off the barge and AHTS already inform to alongside Gandria early morning. BPSC anchor experts (me and Syed) with the owner representative arrive Gandria around 0900 hrs.


As done on Hilli operation, Air hose from gaya 2 barge connected to starboard anchor windlass. After confirm of the windlass operation, the starboard anchor lowered to Lewek Swift deck. The Lewek Swift then drop the anchor 3 shackle in water.


The air hose later shifted to port side windlass, to operated current holding anchor. The chain pulled by the AHTS on to their deck and cut the canter shackle. The AHTS start their de-kinking task after let go he ship side chain.

After more than 1 hour de-kinking operation by the AHTS, we found a big ball at 5th kanter shackle. It was big task for the AHTS. They tried de-kinking the ball by pulling and slacking method. At 1 time their Ballard winch had hydraulic leak problem in their engine room. The whole Operation was delayed due to repairing the hydraulic leak.
As the ATHS winch repair the decided to reconnect the chain to the ship and lift the chain using ship windlass. At 2200 hrs the chain reconnected to ships using new spare kanter shackle. The full 12 shackles of anchor chain then slowly lifted by the ship windlass using air. It took about 4 hours to fully lift the chain with clearing some of the kink in between.

The air connection shifted to starboard windlass again to lay the starboard anchor 11 shackles on deck. Lewek Swift winched their towing wire to Gandria and connected to the port Ballard. While the ATHS tow slowly within 0.4 knots, the starboard anchor lowered slowly until 11th kanter shackle come to deck.

The whole operation took about 24 hours. Everyone come ashore with full tiredness and sleepiness.

Hilli Anchor Chain Renewal Task

Some time ago the Hilli’s port anchor chain some section was removed due to unknown reason. The owner of the vessel was decided to renew the non present section last month. New anchor and chain was brought in Singapore then it was reclassified to DNV from Lloyds. Shipments via an AHTS named Lewek Swift depart from Singapore on Monday 11th July 2010. Lewek Swift arrived Labuan on 13th July 2010. All preparation and Risk assessment discussed with all parties involve (BPSC key personnel, Labuan Shipyard superviser, AHTS operators, Compressor leasing company, additional man power Supply Company and the vessel owner cum manager). The task scheduled to take place on 14th July 2010 (today).



As usual the worker force of BPSC attended the safety moment and warm up section. A separate RA and JHA briefing conducted by the BPSC management to BPSC workers, compressor leasing company representative at 0720 hrs. Everyone understands their own responsibility during this operation. After final checks on permit and tools, the operation key personnel left the BPSC base to Hilli @ 0900 hrs. Barge Gaya 2 was already approach the Hilli before the main key personnel board the vessel. An additional spare 1 tonnes DO was lowered to Gaya 2 barge before it make fast at Hilli’s starboard side @ 0945 hrs. Air hose from barge lifted and connected to the port anchor windlass as this previously operated by steam and the vessel currently dead.


Starboard windlass tested and the remaining chain lowered up to water surface and wait for the AHTS Lewek Swift to pick the anchor chain.

The AHTS arrived around lunch and on DP position approached the anchor. The anchor chain lowered to their deck and the old counter shackles cut out and connected to new chain. The chain later lifted with air windlass. Total lifting took 4 hours. The new anchor secured finally.



End the of the day BPSC comm. Centre ordered to stand down after completion.

Hagemaru 29th Birthday

Cancerian people have very expressive features. A thousand moods play flectingly across their faces in the course of conversation. Cancerian have such comfort of imagery and their moods are so intense they can make you feel them. They are hard on the surface but soft from inside. A Cancerian is very sentimental and possesses good money. He is very sensual in love. A cancer person is like to make goof friends. They never forget any of the lesions life has taught them nor do they forget the lesions history has taught mankind. A Cancerian often collects antiques.




He has such a great wealth of ideas to call upon that he is generally highly creative. He is mostly quite independent and does not like to seek others advice. Making good decisions can be his biggest challenge as his mind and heart are constantly conflict with each other. The typical Cancer person does not like to discuss his personal life but he is delighted to hear about yours as his lunar imaginations let him easily guess the past you leave out.

Its really touch his lonely heart. The best part of his birthday are the gift from his wife " The Hagemaru " , the number one animation hero. I won't comment anything more about Hagemaru. Sure Ater will "marah" me. The party was great with our 2 chief bbq chef
Ejump and Madi are the chef with help of Helmi. Rest are the "tengok tengok aje". The guy who "bisik bisik " is my daughter favorite hero "adada ungle". You know why he call hero?
because his willingness to help, spraying something to make the fish, chicken and beef to cooked fast. May be I also start admiring him.
Finally our heroes birthday not end, will continue till tomorrow morning for live Holland versus Spain Fifa Word cup final.

Labuan Airport

Every time I wake her up early morning, she sure ask are we going to airport and most of time I wake her up for that reason only. She have her own flight jacket. She only get out from the house without the jacket if you already inform her that we are going to airport. Look at her happy face even at a small non busy Labuan Airport. Labuan airport just a 10 minutes away from my house. Few shops with hardly sees customer. Inside the boarding room there is a shop selling gift. She use to go there for just play drum. Most of the shop keeper are become friendly with her already. Every time we flying from this airport, we normally breakfast at McDonald at the arrival hall. McDonald is my favourite fast food among others.
